Fourth Unhopped Iron Brewer Challenge: Unhopped and Unplugged Brews
April 6 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeThe Hortus Academicus/Brew Garden initiative at UWM will hold a tasting competition of six entries. These brews all have archaeological/historical pedigrees. The story of each brew will be available in a short power point.
Three judges will choose the top three brews:
- Joe Yeado, Gathering Place Brewing
- Jerry Janiszewski, Pabst Mansion and Wisconsin Historical Foundation Board of Directors
- Rob Novak, The Brewing Experience, Old World Wisconsin
Joe Yeado has generously agreed to offer the winner the opportunity to brew their beer using a new pilot brewing system at Gathering Place in River West with a launch party at GP to follow.
One ounce samples will be available to attendees of legal drinking age, and there will be a People’s Choice award with non-contestants casting their votes via ballot for their favorite brew.
This year’s entries are:
- Medieval Bog Nog (gruit ale with bog myrtle and millet)
- My Heart’s in the Highlands (leann fraoich/heather ale)
- Juellinge’s Prize (Iron Age Nordic grog)
- Heart of the Agave (Mesoamerican pulque)
- Gold of King Midas (Iron Age Gordion)
- Chicha Morada (Andean purple maize beer)
See you for a fun evening of history, archaeology and a taste of ancient brews from around the world! Get inspired to enter yourself next time!
