Ancient Greek Language and Literature
The minor with an Ancient Greek Language and Literature concentration is intended for students who wish to study ancient Greek literature and gain access to foundational writings of the western world. No prior experience in languages (or grammar) is necessary or assumed. The emphasis is on reading and translating, rather than on speaking. In the first two semesters, sentences (and later paragraphs) are taken from the Iliad and Odyssey, the historical works by Thucydides and Herodotus, the Philosophical works of Plato, the dramas of Sophocles and Euripides, court cases, and the Gospels, Letters, and other writings of the New Testament. Longer selections are considered in the third and fourth semesters as competency increases.
Minor Concentration in Ancient Greek Language and Literature
The Ancient Greek Language and Literature minor concentration requires completion of a minimum of 21 credits, including the following:
