UWM Graduate Student Wellness Series

The UWM Graduate School organizes events, activities and seminars to help graduate students with a holistic approach to physical, mental, educational and financial wellness as they move successfully through degree milestones, acquire a variety of skills, and advance their opportunities.

Faculty and staff from units across campus contribute to this ongoing series, supporting graduate student wellness as they envision and pursue their own future, in and beyond the university. All students enrolled in a UWM graduate program (on campus and online) are invited to attend these events.

Winter Welcome for Graduate Students- NEW DATE!

Monday, January 27 @ 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm in Mitchell Hall in the hallway outside of the Graduate School office room 261

Presented as a part of the Graduate Student Wellness Series.

Join the Grad School staff and your fellow graduate students for free hot chocolate and snacks! We’re happy to bring back this favorite tradition of “Hot Chocolate for Grad Students”. Grab a hot chocolate and snacks on the way to class or stick around and mingle in the hallways of Mitchell on the 2nd floor near room 261 while the food lasts!

Graduate Student Resume and CV Writing Workshop

Presented as a part of the Graduate Student Wellness Series in conjunction with the UWM Center for Student Experience and Talent (SET) and the Center for International Education (CIE).

Join the Grad School and Center for Student Experience & Talent (SET) for a special graduate student session on Resume/CV and cover letters. Whether you’re preparing for internships, job applications, or graduate programs, learning the art of resume and CV writing is essential for standing out in a competitive landscape. Explore the strategies and best practices to confidently present your unique qualifications and make a lasting impression on potential employers. Session will be held in-person at the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center & UWM Welcome Center (LECWC) in the first floor classroom located at 2100 E. Kenwood Blvd. Register through Handshake.

American Fiction – Black History Movie Night and Discussion

Presented as a part of the Graduate Student Wellness Series in conjunction with Sociocultural Programming, Black Student Union, & Union Cinema.

Join us for a special screening of American Fiction, a thought-provoking film that explores themes of identity, race, and the complexities of the American experience. Don’t miss this opportunity to watch a gripping story unfold on the big screen. Stay after the film for a brief discussion on its impact and themes. 

Ice Skating for Graduate Students

Presented as a part of the Graduate Student Wellness Series in conjunction with Outdoor Pursuits

Are you a graduate student looking to get involved with Outdoor Pursuits? Well, lace up your skates, grab your mittens and get ready for a graduate student exclusive ice skating experience! Join Outdoor Pursuits as we carve up a night of fun at the Pettit Center. Bring your skates if you have some, but do not fret if you don’t! We will also be providing rental skates. Registration closes 1 day before the trip. Register here.

The trip is 6:30pm-9pm. Please select this option if you NEED transportation to the Pettit Center. Please select the 9pm-9:30pm option if you DO NOT NEED transportation and will be driving yourself. This is a tool to help us decipher who needs transportation.

Presented as a part of the Graduate Student Wellness Series with UWM’s Financial Aid Office. Presented by Ashley Williams, Student Financial Service Center (SFSC) Training & Onboard Mgr.

This session is a starting point for graduate students interested in learning basics for budgeting for graduation. We will discuss different budgeting categories, apps to use to assist in the budgeting process, and personalized budgeting strategies based on submitted information. Climb Night for Graduate Students

Presented as a part of the Graduate Student Wellness Series in conjunction with Outdoor Pursuits

Are you a Graduate student looking to try rock climbing for the first or second time? Outdoor Pursuits has joined forces with UWM’s Graduate School to offer a night of indoor rock climbing at Adventure Rock climbing gym across the street from Riverview Hall! All equipment and instruction will be provided. Transportation is NOT provided, but Adventure Rock can be accessed by taking the Prowl Line to Cambridge Hall or Riverview Hall and walking the short distance to Adventure Rock from there. Registration closes 1 day before the trip. Calling all Graduate Student brainiacs and social butterflies! Join the fun at UWM Gasthaus for their epic trivia night.

It’s a fast-paced battle of wits that’s become a campus favorite – perfect for putting your knowledge to the test with friends (or making some new ones!). Teams can have 2-6 players, and if you fly solo, no worries! We’ll help you connect with fellow Panthers who are also trivia titans. Top 2 teams walk away with bragging rights and sweet UWM Union Gift Cards. So grab your crew (or get ready to meet some!), and get ready for a night of laughter, learning, and maybe even a little friendly competition!
