Personal Trainer Certificate

If you love fitness and helping people achieve their goals, a career as a personal trainer may be for you! This program prepares students to take the ACE Personal Trainer Certification Exam and to become effective personal trainers.

Kristi FarmerInstructor Kristi Farmer holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology from UWM, is a graduate of the Waukesha County Business Alliance’s Leadership Waukesha County program and is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer. She has spoken at national conferences and workshops on fitness and relationship building. In 2017, Kristi was named the Midwest MANIA® Fitness Idol Winner.

Farmer will present the ACE Integrated Fitness Training® (ACE IFT®) Model as a comprehensive system for designing individualized programs based on each client’s unique needs and goals. Students will learn how to facilitate rapport, adherence, self-efficacy and behavior change in clients, as well as design programs that help clients to improve posture, movement, flexibility, balance, core function, cardiorespiratory fitness, and muscular endurance and strength. Students will benefit from face-to-face instruction in both lecture and lab formats.

The course does not include the personal trainer certification exam. Students will need to complete CPR training on their own. For more information about this certificate program, please email continuing-ed@uwm.edu or call 262-521-5460.
