However, to thrive as an online student, this mode of learning requires self-discipline, organizational skills and effective time management. Our supportive faculty and resources are dedicated to ensuring your success, guiding you as you learn from any location that suits your lifestyle.
Fully online courses cater to students seeking an active and participatory learning experience in a virtual setting. Whether you’re a newly enrolled first-year student or want to finish a degree you previously started, our online programs offer accessible opportunities. These courses are designed with working professionals and busy individuals in mind and eliminate the need to commute to campus. You can balance your studies with work and family commitments.
While enjoying the freedom of “anytime, anywhere” learning, you’ll also participate in moderated online discussions, which foster a collaborative and interactive environment with classmates. Our dedicated online instructors provide direct feedback, ensuring you receive personalized guidance and support throughout your academic journey. Successful online students embrace the independence and self-discipline required for online learning while benefiting from a dynamic and engaging virtual classroom experience.
Yes! We understand the individual needs and preferences of our students. While some choose an exclusively online learning experience, others prefer a blended approach, combining online and in-person courses if they live close to campus. Regardless of the format, we are committed to delivering a high-quality educational experience.
Before enrolling in an online or blended course, it’s essential to ask yourself four key questions to assess your readiness for this learning style. If you answer “yes” to all of these questions, the online/blended format may be a great fit for you. If you answer “no” to any of them, online/blended courses may still work, but you’ll likely need to adjust your schedule and study habits to succeed. Your instructors or advisor can suggest strategies to improve your ability to thrive in online and blended learning.
- Do I express myself well in writing and have strong reading skills? Reading and writing are essential in online courses. You must be able to comprehend others’ writing — both your instructors’ and classmates’ — and express yourself clearly and concisely with minimal grammatical or spelling errors. You should be comfortable following written instructions and willing to ask questions when needed.
- Do I possess basic computer and technical skills? You will need a relatively recent computer or access to a university computer lab or public library workstation. It is also important to have a high-speed internet connection and the ability to upload and download files, browse the web, use email and interact on discussion forums or bulletin boards. Proficiency in typing and using basic programs like word processors is essential. Some courses may require additional skills, such as the use of Excel or PowerPoint, so check the course syllabus early to ensure you meet the computer requirements.
- Can I consistently set aside a minimum of six to 10 hours per week to complete all coursework and assignments? Online and blended courses require at least as much work as traditional courses. Expect to set aside time several days a week for online coursework, as well as logging in to the course website at least three times a week and spending two to three hours on online work per session. If your other responsibilities make this schedule impossible, online/blended learning may not be suitable for you at this time.
- Am I willing to take responsibility for my own learning and work collaboratively with classmates and instructors? Online and blended courses typically place less emphasis on lectures and exams. You must be prepared to engage in more creative work, apply course concepts to real-world situations and demonstrate your understanding in different ways. Collaborative group work is common, so if you prefer working in isolation, the blended format may not be ideal.
By honestly evaluating your readiness and making necessary adjustments, you can set yourself up for success in online and hybrid learning environments.
