Emile H. Mathis Gallery Exhibition: ReVisioning the UWM Art Collection

The UWM Art Collection (UWMAC) and its steward, the Department of Art History, has officially premiered its impressive new venue, the Emile H. Mathis Gallery. The Gallery is a state-of-the-art 2,400 square feet exhibition space, named in honor of patron Emile H. Mathis, an art connoisseur, collector and gallery owner. The debut of the Emile H. Mathis Gallery marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the UWMAC, providing additional exhibition and storage space to display and house the expanding permanent art collection. The Gallery’s inaugural exhibition, ‘Legacies: ReVisioning the UWM Art Collection,’ showcases extraordinary artworks of varied media celebrating the collection’s incredible richness, depth and breadth. The exhibition honors the generous patrons whose gifts of art form the UWM Art Collection through a multi-themed presentation that invites viewers to explore the diversity of the collection, as it reflects art donors’ broad collecting interests. The Emile H. Mathis Gallery is open Monday through Thursday 10am to 4pm during the regular UWM school year, and is free of charge. Mitchell Hall, Room #154.
