Information for Students

Tionól Gaeilge classes take place at the beautiful CelticMKE Center in Wauwatosa. Friday and Saturday evening activities take place in the Joyce Room at the County Clare Inn on the East Side. Rideshare is a useful option for students. The event is always free for UWM students, no matter if you are in Irish classes on campus or not.

If you are interested in Study Abroad, this is a great opportunity to learn some Irish before visiting a Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking region) in Ireland! It will prepare you for culture and language classes on the study abroad trip and put you in a competitive position for certain funding assistance.

Teachers are experienced, skilled, and FUN at every level!

Meet other learners at all skill levels. Last year’s event was attended by 56 guests from all levels of language skill, including many total beginners, and from all over the country. Come and find out about other opportunities to continue learning and practicing your Irish throughout the year in Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, the Twin Cities, and coast-to-coast.

Douglas Hyde Lecture

The Douglas Hyde Lecture is an annual talk on an aspect of Irish language and its influence in history, economics, politics, diasporas, and anything else you can think of, hosted by the Center for Celtic Studies. It takes place as part of the Tionól Gaeilge weekend each year. This year’s speaker will be Chicago-based Vice Consul of Ireland Pádraig Manning. The talk will take place in hybrid format via Zoom at 12:30p CST on Saturday, March 2.
