Cailín Nic an tSionnaigh (UW-Milwaukee) and Clíodhna Ní Chorráin (University of Notre Dame) were 2022-23 Fulbright FLTAs and Irish Language Instructors, both from the North of Ireland. This colloquium talk about language revitalization and preservation through the persistence of An Dream Dearg and the Acht Gaeilge movement examined some difficulties of nationalism and language policy, as well as some grassroots political questions and impact of Irish (Gaeilge) on the culture of the North of Ireland. Rónán Ó Dochartaigh is Language Director at Oideas Gael, a community language and culture school in Gleann Cholm Cille in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Musician/songwriter/educator Dáithí Sproule joined the Center for Celtic Studies at the 2022 Tionól Gaeilge Irish Language Immersion Weekend to share a lecture entitled “The Poetry of Irish Song.” From the oral and bardic traditions, to the tunes that have survived many generations, and into the poetics of the Irish Language today, formal and informal poetics were assessed through the lens of the Irish Language.
