ISB Phenology Commission 2014 Annual Report

ISB and the Phenology Commission were major sponsors of the Phenology 2012 conference that took place in Milwaukee, WI, USA from 10-13 September 2012, with over 140 attendees, and was followed at the same site by a one-day 2nd International Workshop on the Validation of Satellite-based Land Surface Phenology Products. The May 2014 issue of IJB was a special issue devoted exclusively to papers developed from presentations made at the Phenology 2012 conference.

A third international phenology conference, Phenology 2015, has been scheduled for 5-8 October 2015 in Kusadasi, Turkey, also sponsored by ISB and the Phenology Commission. A similar special issue of IJB is planned to proceed from this conference.

The Phenology Commission now intends to sponsor an international phenology conference every three years, in the year following the ICB (i.e., 2018, 2021, etc.). Commission members in the USA continue to work closely with the USA National Phenology Network.

Commission members are exploring with the WMO Commission for Agricultural Meteorology (CAgM) the concept of advancing phenological observations and cooperation among networks globally through development of a Global Alliance of Phenological Observation Networks (GAPON).
