Zsane Dorsey-Wonders, Bria

Case Manager

I started my college journey in 2014 unsure about everything and not sure I’d make it to 25.
Now... My name is Bria Sophia Zsanè Dorsey-Wonders I graduated in May of 2022 with a BSW and a certificate from Columbia university in NYC in public welfare policy while at UWM. I work as a case manager for a county in Wisconsin in the ongoing unit for DCFS. I had hopes of becoming at attorney so this career is perfect for me as it is a marriage of legal work, case management, counseling, and social work. I fought long and hard for my degree, many people didn’t believe I would make it this far. I switched majors multiple times, there were semesters the best I could do was a 2.5, but I never gave up. I stuck with it through over 300 practicum hours for my major and multiple setbacks. I graduated with a 3.6 GPA and salaried career offer in my field two weeks later. I plan to work in the county and continue my education in order to help my community, become more trauma informed, and heal years of systemic wounds. I hope to be the change I needed when I was a kid in the system. I aspire to earn my masters or doctorate degree in something policy or psychology based. I can thank myself for my success but also the support I received from the Black Student Cultural Center, Ms. Victoria Pryor and Ms. Ramona Sledge along with Dr. David J. Pate; the Dean of The Helen Bader School of Social Work. I see myself as a leader and success story, I want people to know the sky is the limit, keep pushing!
