Statements of Solidarity

The African Diaspora Council’s Statements on Injustices

The African Diaspora Council (ADC) is committed to supporting and advocating for our entire community. Umoja! We stand together in the fight against oppression and racism. The coronavirus (COVID-19) global health pandemic has had an overwhelmingly harsh impact on the number of deaths throughout our community. Incidents of hate and domestic terrorism have persisted as a constant reality for us since our arrival upon this land. In these unprecedented times and new realities, Blacks are encountering routine brutalization at the hands of police officers who took an oath to “serve and protect.” Tears of joy rang out across the nation when the judge read the guilty verdict of Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd. The world now waits to learn if Chauvin receives the maximum
penalty and if justice is served!

These events put the health and safety of our people at unparalleled risk as evidenced in the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and countless others. Senseless hate crimes coupled with the disproportionately high number of COVID-19 cases spreading throughout the Black community are direct results of continued systematic racism and privilege granted to white Americans. National data indicates Black communities continue to experience the worst outcomes on all fronts including education, healthcare and policing. The ADC stands in solidarity with fellow local and national African American organizations and the UWM
community in denouncing racial injustices.

If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

Statement of Solidarity with the Asian Community

The African Diaspora Council extends our deepest support, thoughts, and prayers to the Asian-American community after the recent loss of 8 innocent lives in Atlanta. The ADC stands firmly against all forms of violence, discrimination, and xenophobia. We condemn all acts of violence on the Asian-American community. Every life is valuable, and each loss of life is a tragedy. We must continue to educate and support efforts to combat racism, sexism, injustice, and hate in our nation. We continue to stand for and with all the groups who contribute to making our country, and the world a safe and equitable place for all to live.
