The reporter begins by saying that the city of Milwaukee is against the Dutch Elm disease, which is carried by a beetle and is killing elm trees in the city. He describes the scientific pursuit to combat this and interviews scientist, Gordon Raynor, who says introducing Asiatic elm trees which are resistant to to the disease is the plan. They want to to perform a two year study period, mostly to observe the trees handle the weather and environmental conditions.
