Metric Mini Doc Part 2 A-Roll

Summary:

Footage on industrial adaptations to the metric system in American education and society. This segment profiles two local industries’ conversion to metric, one being General Motors plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, which introduced metric to the product line in 1973; the plant was the first to manufacture an all-metric automobile, the Chevette. It also addresses problems of conversion for large and small businesses like cost to product integration and simultaneous use of two measurement systems in the workplace. These issues are related in interviews clips, one with the president of the Canadian Independent Businessmen who argues for government backing. Silent video also shows shots of the Chevette and its speedometer with both customary and metric systems and a classroom at General Motors of employees learning about the metric system.

This mini documentary is dated February 1977.
