Microsoft Word Online is a web-based version of Microsoft’s popular word processing application and is included as part of the Microsoft 365 suite licensed to students, faculty, and staff at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM). It allows users to create, edit, and collaborate on documents directly in a web browser without needing to install software locally, making it a convenient option for accessing files from any device with internet connectivity. As part of UWM’s Microsoft 365 subscription, users also have the option to download and install the full desktop version of Microsoft Word on personal devices for enhanced features and offline use. Installation instructions are provided through UWM IT resources, and for UWM-managed computers, the desktop app can be easily installed through the Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Mac), which provides a streamlined, university-supported deployment process.
