I completed my PhD in American Studies at UMinn in 1996, where I focused on youth, popular culture, US history, and urban studies. I was an assistant professor in Popular Culture Studies at Bowling Green State, 1996-2003. I came to UWM History in 2004. I have written a book on the birth of graffiti art in New York (1970-1990), and published scholarly articles on youth cultures, graffiti and street art, psychedelia, and zines.
