Jocelyn Szczepaniak-Gillece is a historian of film, exhibition, and screen technology and the author of The Optical Vacuum: Spectatorship and Modernized American Theater Architecture (Oxford University Press, 2018) as well as multiple peer-reviewed articles and essays. Her new book project, Movies Under the Influence: Substances and Cinema, considers the history of intoxicants, exhibition, moviegoing, and the counterculture.
