The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare offers students the opportunity to discover career paths and connection on campus through student associations in social work, criminal justice, and gerontology.
Student Social Work Association
Our purpose is to increase students’ knowledge about the social work profession through connecting student with resources and networks in the professional field of social welfare, and providing a social environment in which to volunteer and enrich the community.
Any graduate or undergraduate student enrolled at UWM in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare.
Join us for one or all of our upcoming events. Events include social activities, volunteer opportunities, and informational sessions about topics in the field of social welfare. Clinical Assistant Professor Jenny Taylor-McBride serves as faculty advisor to the group, which was recognized with three student excellence awards in Spring 2024.

Criminal Justice Student Association
The CJSA serves as an organizational forum for students interested in criminology and criminal justice. More specifically, the CJSA cultivates a network among and between undergraduate and graduate students at UWM, as well as connecting members with practitioners working within the criminal and juvenile justice systems in Milwaukee and neighboring areas. In addition to establishing a presence on campus, CJSA members focus significant attention on community engagement and service in accord with the mission of the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare and UWM.
The CJSA holds monthly meetings scheduled throughout the academic year and welcomes all interested students regardless of major. If you are interested in more information about the CJSA, please contact Dr. Kimberly Hassell who serves as the faculty advisor for the group.

Our purpose is to increase students’ knowledge about gerontology, courses at UW-Milwaukee, and careers in the field. Any undergraduate or graduate student at UWM can join the Student Gerontology Association.
