Jex is a licensed clinical social worker, having received their master's in social work from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as a returning adult student. They work at UWM's Student Health and Wellness Center as an associate director, where they run the master's-level training program and see UWM students for short-term counseling. While they decided to leave the corporate environment, they have retained a passion for training, coaching and outreach.

As a clinical social worker, Jex's primary therapeutic orientation is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, an evidence-based approach focusing on increasing psychological flexibility and getting "unstuck" from life's problems and worries. As both a therapist and an instructor, their focus is person-centered, strengths-based, and collaborative.
