Subcommittee on General Education Reviews

The Subcommittee on General Education Reviews supplies membership for review teams and conducts cyclical reviews of areas of inquiry, as well as OWC and QL courses. It presents findings and recommendations to the APCC and submits annual and special reports as needed.

  1. Membership. The committee is composed of the following members:
    1. Three elected Faculty members,
    2. at least three non-student members of the Academic Program and Curriculum Committee appointed annually by the Chair of the Academic Program and Curriculum Committee, subject to approval by the committee.

      Committee membership should reflect the range of disciplines and colleges/schools in the University insofar as the size of the subcommittee allows.
  2. Chair.
    The Subcommittee on General Education Reviews elects its own chair from among its membership. The chair must be a faculty member of the Academic Program and Curriculum Committee (Section 6.27 (1)).
  3. Functions.
    1. To supply membership for the review team. Each year the subcommittee will review one of the “areas of inquiry” (on a six-year cycle) and in alternate years will review Oral and Written Communication (OWC) and Quantitative Literacy (QL) courses (on a three-year cycle).
    2. To prepare reports, conclusions, and recommendations for presentation to the Academic Program and Curriculum Committee together with a rationale for each conclusion and recommendation, as necessary.
    3. The subcommittee makes an annual report to the Academic Program and Curriculum Committee. Special reports may be made at the direction of the Academic Program and Curriculum Committee or on the initiative of the subcommittee.
  4. Procedures.
    The Subcommittee on General Education Reviews will adhere to the Audit and Review Procedures adopted by Academic Program and Curriculum Committee.
