University Staff Governance at UWM includes the University Staff Senate and University Staff Committee, along with five subcommittees that work on behalf of the Senate on specific areas to help fellow University Staff. In addition, University Staff also serve on various Faculty and Administrative committees which represent University Staff at UWM. These representatives work to represent all staff employees regardless of appointment type (permanent, project or limited term) proportionately by position/employment distribution category.

University Staff won the right to govern themselves beginning in 2011. They were the University Staff Council (formerly the Classified Staff Advisory Council).
