The Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Laboratory in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Health Professions & Sciences is dedicated to research to improve the lives of individuals who have complex communication needs and require AAC systems.
AAC systems are used by individuals who are unable to meet their daily communication needs using speech. This includes individuals with a wide range of disabilities such as: cerebral palsy, autism, aphasia, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease). AAC can be used temporarily or as a long-term means of communication.
