Julie Behrman

  • Clinical Assistant Professor, Communication Sciences & Disorders

Education

MS Speech Pathology, Marquette University, 1999
BA Theology, Marquette University, 1984

Interests & Expertise

In her initial 17 years as a Speech/Language Pathologist, Julie worked at Medical Support Services, Inc., a pediatric outpatient clinic in Racine, WI. In addition to working with children demonstrating speech/language disorders, she had the opportunity to specialize in providing therapy to pediatric clients displaying auditory processing deficits, learning disabilities, newborns demonstrating feeding/swallowing disorders, and children with feeding aversions. It was in that setting that Julie discovered her love of clinical instruction working with internship students assigned to her site, as well as supervision of new graduates during their Clinical Fellowship Year. Looking for new challenges, Julie left to establish and co-own a private practice in the Milwaukee area. There she was able to expand her expertise to also serve adults seeking accent modification and gender-affirming voice services.

In 2020, Julie came to UWM to assist as an ad hoc clinical educator. This experience re-ignited her desire to assist in the formation of the next generation of SLPs. In Fall 2022, Julie joined the COMSDIS Program in a more permanent role: Clinical Assistant Professor. She is responsible for supervising the 1st year graduate students during their Voice/Fluency clinical experience in the on-campus clinic.
