UWM AccessOT is a student-led occupational therapy clinic setting integrated within the Masters of Occupational Therapy Program at UW-Milwaukee. Students work together in pairs to treat each patient under the direct supervision of a licensed occupational therapist faculty member. This allows our students to get hands-on experiences to complement what they are learning in the classroom as well as promote collaborative working relationships with their peers. Further, community members will have access to occupational therapy and wellness services at no cost!
The primary goal of outpatient occupational therapy is to facilitate healing and, if possible, restore patients to their normal activities of daily living (ADLs). It aims to enhance patients’ independence and daily functioning.
Conditions treated often relate to the arm and include the following but not limited to:
- Repetitive strain injuries (tendonitis, nerve entrapment)
- Joint pain
- Muscle strains
- Arthritis
- General weakness
- Neurological conditions affecting ADL independence
