Outage Description
A physical problem with hardware caused a serious obstacle to work in the Physics Building today. Network Services staff have solved the issue, but the time it will take to complete the upgrade has been pushed back substantially by the setback.
Staff are currently working as quickly as they can to move several hundred remaining connections and have communicated a conservative ETA for completion of Midnight tonight.
Network access will return throughout the building as technicians work through the physical cabling in each area.
We understand this is a frustrating situation and UITS Network Engineering and Network Services thank you for your patience while we recover service as promptly as possible.
Impact to Users
Devices on both Wi-Fi and ethernet networks in the Physics Building will have no access to network resources until their supporting infrastructure is physically reconnected. This will happen gradually throughout the building as staff work on the problem.
