Outage Description
In order to maintain the security and stability of UWM network access upgrades are scheduled to take place to campus firewalls this evening, March 20, 2024 at 9:00PM CDT. It is expected to take less than an hour to complete, but the maintenance window has been scoped for response to any unforeseen issues that may occur.
Network engineering is taking this short notice maintenance window to solve several issues that already have or may result in future unplanned outages across the enterprise. The risk of unplanned outages has been determined to be high enough to make immediate upgrades a high priority.
This work covers all networks, wired and wireless, in all UWM buildings in all physical sites, as well as VPN access. It does not affect services in UWM UITS Datacenters.
Impact to Users
The upgrade method should not result in service outages, as we move firewall service between high-availability pairs. There is always the possibility of unexpected issues that may cause interruptions during the failover due to aging infrastructure outside the firewalls themselves. Any interruptions that occur may affect all networked devices in any UWM building but should not last more than a minute given the protocols in question.
