DNS/DHCP Service Maintenance – May 6, 2026 – 11:00PM to 12:00AM
Outage Details
Outage Description
In order to maintain the security and stability of DNS and DHCP service at UWM an urgent software upgrade will take place starting at 11:00PM this evening. This work is expected to take about an hour.
Each member of the grid of servers that support these services will be upgraded and rebooted in turn.
Impact to Users
DNS service should be maintained without interruption via anycast as rebooting servers will remove their routes and active servers will take over.
Due to the way the DHCP protocol works at UWM, DHCP service in each quadrant of and off-campus sites will be interrupted for a few minutes as each server reboots. Devices with active IP address leases should not notice any service interruption. As soon as rebooted DHCP servers come online, devices that attempt to renew or gain a new IP address during the reboot period should automatically reconnect.
NOC staff will monitor to make sure leases are properly provisioned after each reboot for each affected building. All UWM buildings will see this short interruption during the maintenance window.
