DNS/DHCP/IPAM Service Upgrade

In order to ensure the security and stability of the DDI (Domain Name Service/Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol/Internet Protocol Address Management) services at UWM, a software upgrade is scheduled to take place during this maintenance window.

These system upgrades will take place in a rolling sequence across UWM’s network and will cause short DHCP interruptions in each Quad of the UWM Kenwood Campus as well as remote sites during the Southwest Quad upgrade. This work should not affect any resnet networks in UWM dorms.

The vast majority of devices should not notice any interruption and only computers coming online or renewing their IP address during the DHCP service restart will be affected for the time it takes the service to come back online. This is normally on the order of 5-10 minues.

IP address management will be unavailable to administrators for roughly an hour during this maintenance window in order to protect the database from unsynchronized changes.

There is not expected to be any interruption of network access to services to or from UWM as the DNS service is configured to be fully redundant.
