Canvas, Kaltura and Zoom degradation
Canvas, Zoom, Kaltura (My Media) and other Digital Learning services are being impacted by an ongoing outage at Amazon AWS.
Canvas, Zoom, Kaltura, and most textbook publishers are currently inaccessible, or are otherwise partially not working. Students and instructors may be unable to complete their coursework until the outage has passed.
10/20/2025 11:00 AM - Note that wider issues exist with the AWS platform globally and other campuswide services that utilize AWS as a service may also be affected.
10/20/2025 3:45 PM - The AWS Outage continues, but Amazon AWS technicians are reporting improvements on their side (as disclosed via their Status page).
Some instructors have asked questions about alternate strategies they can take for instruction.

If you need to share documents or presentations for the immediate term, share a link for a OneDrive folder to your students via email.

If you have pre-existing Zoom meetings you would like to access, you can log in as a host to the Zoom website, and launch your meeting from there. Send invite information to your class by email. (Note that meetings created in Zoom outside of Canvas will not show-up automatically in Canvas).

If you need to upload a video to share with your class, log into mediaspace.wisconsin.edu by clicking “Guest”, then Login. Videos uploaded there will be accessible from My Media.

10/20/2025 4:24 PM - AWS Outage Impacting Canvas, Other Digital Learning Services
Update, 4:17pm, Oct 20, 2025: Canvas, Kaltura, Zoom and other Digital Learning Services are currently being impacted by an Amazon AWS outage which began approximately 2:00 am today. According to Amazon AWS, a fix has been made and their services are starting to recover. Students: Please check your UWM Email by going to Microsoft 365 (m365.cloud.microsoft) for any course-related updates from your instructors.
10/20/2025 6:15 PM - Resolved: Approximately 10 minutes ago, Amazon AWS reported that their service disruption is resolved. I have verified it is now possible to log into Canvas. Most other services returned to normal operation between 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
