Outage Description
Some UWM.edu website visitors have reported experiencing “Bad Request” errors when attempting to view web pages. The errors appear to be caused by a person’s web browser having a large amount of browser cookie data. Clearing a web browser’s cache (and therefore eliminating the cookie data) has been known to resolve the issue.
Impact to Users
Some people viewing UWM.edu web pages have experienced errors with a message reading “Bad Request. Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.”
Updates
08/31/2023 1:00 PM - Technical staff made adjustments to UWM.edu to prevent the “Bad Request” errors. Staff will monitor support channels for reports of additional errors.
