Outage Details
Outage Description

The primary controller for UWM’s DNS/DHCP/IPAM Grid experienced a drive failure this morning. There have been DNS and DHCP service outages intermittently as the server attempts to rebuild its RAID array and maintain service.

DNS is being failed over to other members of the grid to reduce load. DHCP service running from this server is being prepped to move to a different grid member but that is a highly disruptive and complex process and will be held off unless there is a full service outage.

The vendor is being contacted to replace the failed hardware. Updates with replacement ETA will be posted here.

Impact to Users

Intermittent issues with obtaining IP addresses via DHCP on the Southwest Quadrant of the Kenwood Campus and off-campus sites such as School of Freshwater Science, Continuing Education Plankington, Zilber School of Public Health, WUWM Chase Tower, and others. Usually these interruptions self-solve when clients re-attempt lease requests.

Updates

08/17/2026 12:37 PM - Replacement components are on the way from the vendor and due to arrive August 18, 2026. As soon as the new drive and carrier are in hand the failed device will be replaced.
