Widespread Network Outages – Sunday August 10, 2025

Due to a long-lasting loss of electrical power to core network equipment, there is a large-scale network outage affecting UWM.

All buildings in the east half of the UWM Kenwood Campus are offline as of this posting, and other buildings and sites may be affected by loss of network access.

This outage will last until electrical service is restored to core network infrastructure.

Network access is unavailable to all buildings in the east half of the UWM Kenwood Campus, as well as Hefter Conference Center.

Network access may be affected in other buildings and sites as well.

This outage affects all network service, ethernet and Wi-Fi.

Network service should be restored once electrical service is restored and stable. Network Operations has received no ETA yet on restoration of electricity to core network infrastructure.

08/10/2025 5:27 PM - Normal power has been restored and we are starting to see networks coming back online in affected areas.

08/10/2025 5:27 PM - Routes and network traffic for the east half of campus have activated in the past few minutes. There are hundreds of devices to check, so there may be lingering outages and instability as staff work their way through checking on everything. As such this outage will remain active until we are confident all service has returned.

08/10/2025 5:56 PM - The network core linking buildings in SE Quad and off-campus sites connected via SE Quad has been damaged by the power event and requires physical intervention. Network staff are on their way to the affected hardware to fix the issue. Until then there is no network access for buildings in SE Quad of UWM’s Kenwood Campus.
