Urgent Nework Maintenance – 10/31/2024

In order to maintain the security and stability of the network at UWM urgent maintenance work has been scheduled to take place Thursday evening, October 31, 2024 at 11:00PM CDT. This work is expected to take less than an hour to complete.

Network engineering is taking this short notice maintenance window to apply software updates to network infrastructure, fixing an ongoing issue and avoiding future problems. The risk of unplanned outages has been determined to be high enough to make immediate upgrades a high priority.

The upgrade should not result in service outages, as covered devices are redundant. There is always the possibility of unexpected issues that may cause interruptions. Any interruptions that occur may affect any networked devices in any UWM building but should not be widespread.

This work covers all networks, wired and wireless, in all UWM buildings in all physical sites, as well as VPN access.

There are no widespread outages expected as part of this work. The affected infrastructure is made of redundant components, still, there exists the possiblity of any given client requesting a DHCP lease at the moment of service migration and failing the process. In this case the client should self-recover within a minute, and after a reboot in the worst case.
