FirstDanao

Close-up of red blood cells flowing through a blood vessel.

The goal is to engineer and commercialize an artificial red blood cell product. Ideally, this product could be a blood substitute – one type could be substituted for all blood types. A prototype has been developed, which was developed from natural polymers – pectin (from fruit peels) and oligochitosan (from crab shell). Moreover, the prototype has been tested under the physiological conditions to ensure the potential clinical applications.
