RESEARCH
TO IMPACT.
UWM TRANSLATE is a university-wide initiative to strengthen how research moves from discovery toward real-world use. We are testing and building better pathways that connect researchers with external needs, develop translational skills, advance promising projects, and improve the institutional systems that support research translation.
Three integrated thrusts
TRANSLATE treats research translation as an institutional capability—not simply a collection of individual commercialization projects.
Industry Pull
Bring external problems, users, industry perspectives, and partnerships into research earlier.
System + Culture Change
Strengthen skills, incentives, policies, roles, and institutional practices that enable translation.
STRP Pipeline
Advance selected Seed Translational Research Projects through milestone-driven development toward adoption.
Three projects. Real-world pathways.
The initial STRP portfolio provides a practical testbed for improving UWM’s translation system across very different technology domains.
Wheelchair-Mounted Assistive Robot
Advance an assistive robotic system designed to support powered-wheelchair users with upper-limb limitations, with emphasis on prototype maturation, usability, and deployment pathways.
Real-Time Phosphate Sensor
Advance continuous, in-situ phosphate monitoring technology for applications such as water utilities, watersheds, wastewater systems, and agriculture.
AI-Assisted Threat Modeling
Develop and evaluate a multi-agent artificial intelligence approach that helps product-security teams conduct more scalable and consistent threat modeling.
