Welcome to the UWM Phonetics Lab, located in Johnston Hall G24, where we investigate how people learn to perceive and produce the sounds of a new language. Our research focuses on diverse aspects of second language phonology and phonetics, such as foreign accent, individual differences and phonological developments among adult second language learners, and effective training methods. Using a range of experimental methods, including acoustic analysis and speech perception tasks, we explore typical language learning patterns, as well as the challenges and innovative approaches involved in acquiring new sound systems.
