Innovative Weather Has Closed
Innovative Weather has ceased all operations as of April 30th, 2024. While our student internships and forecasting services have discontinued, this website stands to tell the legacy of Innovative Weather and it’s alumni.

Alex Bukvich

  • Director of Operations Emeritus (2019-2024), Innovative Weather

Alex Bukvich stepped into the role as the Director of Operations in Fall of 2019, and continued until the program's closure in Spring of 2024, but he joined the IW team as a student intern in Spring of 2016. In his role, he managed the daily forecast services, product development/tech support, oversaw the training and professional development of interns and senior staff, recruited/maintained partner relationships, and helped to manage the sustainability of the program. Through this time, he saw Innovative Weather through the turmoil of COVID-19, the adoption of remote operations, multiple office relocations, and a major technical overhaul. Through all of this, the program strived thanks to the steadfast commitment of countless students, who found passion in excellence and applied learning.  Innovative Weather has been one of the shining experiences from his education and his career, and he found immense joy in the ability to give back and help lead the program, while adding value to the community and training the next generation of meteorologists. His time as a student at UWM also saw him heavily involved with the UWM Atmospheric Science Club, as well as UWM Panther Rugby. When not watching the weather, you can find Alex around a rugby pitch or catching up on the latest Formula 1 race.
