The Shorewood village board will meet Monday, September 21 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss next steps in their case against resident Paul Florsheim, who Shorewood police ticketed last summer for walking on the shore of Lake Michigan north of Atwater Beach. Earlier this month, a Milwaukee County Circuit Judge dismissed the ticket, saying the Public Trust Doctrine protected Florsheim’s right to walk on the beach below the ordinary high water mark. Center for Water Policy Director, Professor, and Lynde B. Uihlein Endowed Chair Melissa Scanlan commented on WUWM that to get legal clarity beyond the immediate dispute, the Village would need to seek review in the court of appeal.
