Job Shadow Program

Job Shadow Program

The Panther Job Shadow Program connects students with employers to gain benefits and insight into their prospective career. Employers have the opportunity to invite students to shadow a professional and guide students through a hands on professional experience.

Employer Benefits:

  • Increase brand and presence at UWM
  • Individual opportunity to identify talent
  • Give students direct exposure to your organization
  • Maintain contact with talented and dedicated students
  • Develop your employees’ mentoring, coaching, and leadership skills

Program Dates:

  • Contact Olivia Cross-McCants at orcross@uwm.edu for more information

Selection Process:

  • Employers post a job shadow position on Handshake.
  • Students apply for position
  • Students are ranked based on major, career interests and qualifications, and resume
  • Selected students complete a mandatory workshop prior to the selected shadow date

Job Shadow Schedules:

It is the responsibility of an employer partner to create the schedule of the shadow day. This can consist of tours of the organization, observing a job role, attending engaging meetings and participating in networking events. As an experiential learning opportunity, it is important for students to observe mission critical components of the role:

  • Developing reports
  • Customer service
  • Crisis management
  • Strategy development
  • Leadership decision-making
