Biography

Dilruba F. Shuvra is an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) and PhD Candidate at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. A licensed architect in Bangladesh, her research focuses on community-engaged design, vernacular architecture, cultural landscapes, and architectural history. She led the 2023 Field School in Bangladesh, exploring the Jamdani weaving community.

Dilruba has received notable honors including the UWM DGSF Award (2024–25) and the NYU Cities Collaborative-Mellon Summer Institute fellowship (2022). She has served as a juror for international competitions such as the ARCASIA Student Design Competition (2022) and UN-HABITAT’s Urban Revitalization of Mass Housing (2014). She previously worked as Lead Architect on OXFAM’s Social Architecture Project for Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh.

She also won several design competitions during her practice in Bangladesh, where her work combined social impact with design innovation. Her project has been showcased in the London Festival of Architecture 2013, the Atlas of the Unbuilt World Exhibition.
