Students living on the UWM campus may also request accommodations for university housing. An ePantherID and password are required to complete this application. Documentation of a disability must also be uploaded to the application before it can be successfully submitted. View the Documentation Guidelines for information on documentation for university housing accommodation requests.
Once received, applications are reviewed by the Housing Accommodation Review Committee. If a Housing Accommodation Request is approved or denied, students will be notified through their UWM email from University Housing.
Housing Accommodations may include:
An approved Assistance Animal (often called an emotional support animal) is an animal that has been authorized through the university’s accommodation process, because it provides disability-related support that alleviates symptoms and allows the student equal access to campus housing. Unlike service animals, assistance animals are not required to be trained to perform specific tasks and are typically approved only for housing.
If a student is requesting more than one assistance animal, documentation must clearly support the need for each animal. The provider should explain why one animal is not sufficient and how each animal contributes to addressing the student’s disability-related needs.
Dietary Accommodations in University Housing follow a specific process. Students are asked first to complete the Allergy and Dietary Needs Form and meet with the Dining Team to explore available options. If, after that meeting, Dining Services determines that your needs cannot be reasonably met, you may then submit a Housing Accommodations application through our office, which will be reviewed by the Housing Accommodation Review Committee.

In university housing, emergency evacuation procedures may include staff assistance, use of designated evacuation routes or areas of refuge, and coordination with emergency responders when needed. Students with disabilities are encouraged to work with housing staff in advance to develop a plan that ensures they can exit safely or receive assistance during an emergency.
A Service Animal is a dog that is individually trained to perform specific tasks or work directly related to a person’s disability. Unlike assistance animals, service animals are allowed in most campus spaces and do not require prior approval or documentation through the accommodation process.
