Student Panel on Indigenous Representation

Are you an Indigenous student at UWM and interested in discussing Indigenous representations in the media? Join Dr. Bassett’s class on October 31st from 1:00-2:15pm in Merrill 142, please fill out the form below by October 18th so we can plan accordingly and find a bigger room if needed. Samantha Krueger from the EQI/AISC staff will also be participating in the panel.
The following questions will be asked on the panel:
- Can you talk about your first memory of seeing American Indians in media?
- How do you feel about positive stereotypes of Indigenous people’s?
- Can you share your thoughts on mascots?
- Does anyone want to speak to Adam Sandler’s Ridiculous 6, Sherman Alexie’s Smoke Signals, or Sterlin Harjo’s Reservation Dogs?
- What can Hollywood/the media do?
- How is it that you want to be represented?
- What are some things that make you feel fully yourself in the spaces you navigate?
