Student Panel on Indigenous Representation

Are you an Indigenous student at UWM and interested in discussing Indigenous representations in the media? Join Dr. Bassett’s class on October 31st from 1:00-2:15pm in Merrill 142, please fill out the form below by October 18th so we can plan accordingly and find a bigger room if needed. Samantha Krueger from the EQI/AISC staff will also be participating in the panel.

The following questions will be asked on the panel:

  1. Can you talk about your first memory of seeing American Indians in media?
  2. How do you feel about positive stereotypes of Indigenous people’s?
  3. Can you share your thoughts on mascots?
  4. Does anyone want to speak to Adam Sandler’s Ridiculous 6, Sherman Alexie’s Smoke Signals, or Sterlin Harjo’s Reservation Dogs?
  5. What can Hollywood/the media do?
  6. How is it that you want to be represented?
  7. What are some things that make you feel fully yourself in the spaces you navigate?
