Purpose

Establish an institutional focus upon the emerging capabilities of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI or GenAI) technologies and products so that we may maximize their impact and value.  

Initial Focus

  • Establish our initial scope. 
  • Identify best practices within higher education. 
  • Identify industry partners and opportunities. Help to enable. 
  • Identify applicable regulatory issues. 
  • Identify initiatives elsewhere that demonstrate value. 
  • Identify mainstream GenAI technologies and products and categorize by function. 
  • Identify active efforts on campus to explore GenAI technologies, track products in use and categorize by use cases. 
  • Identify effective assessment practices (ex: NIST). 
  • Communicate risks to be manage when using GenAI products. Establish effective guidelines for campus-wide use. 
  • Connect with other groups exploring these opportunities. 
  • Help to enable and elevate the effective use of GenAI technologies throughout campus where there is common interest and value. 
  • Promote awareness and outcomes related to all these activities. 

Potential Future Focus

  • Establish a campus portfolio of GenAI technologies and governance to maintain it. 
  • Identify online resources where comparisons among products can be made and regularly showcase. 
  • Identify and promote training opportunities that will help stakeholders and practitioners better understand the value and application of these technologies. 
  • Enable communities of practice for GenAI practitioners to strengthen our capabilities. 
  • Promote vendor engagement to identify further opportunities to innovate. 
  • Communicate awareness of GenAI capabilities, products, initiatives, impact at UWM and activities of this group to campus community. 
  • Help to drive the adoption of GenAI technologies where it creates significant value. 
  • Serve as the foundation of a future campus digital innovation capability.   
  • Create a UWM Center of Excellence for GenAI
