Air Force ROTC Scholarships

  • Air Force ROTC (AFROTC) is open to incoming freshmen students and in-college students with at least three years left of study.
  • If students are approaching their senior year of high school, they can apply for the High School Scholarship Program (HSSP) online at afrotc.com.
  • If they apply for a High School Scholarship and subsequently are not awarded a scholarship, there are opportunities to compete for an in-college scholarship while in AFROTC.
  • Please be advised that students do not have to be on scholarship in order to participate in AFROTC.

In-College Scholarships

Eligibility

  • 2-year to 3.5-year
  • All majors eligible
  • When available, Detachment Commanders can nominate freshmen and sophomore non-scholarship cadets for in-college scholarships. Scholarship consideration is based on cadet’s college GPA, commander’s ranking and physical fitness assessment score. The minimum scores are below:
    • Cumulative GPA – 3.0; Term GPA – 2.5
    • Freshmen only: ACT – 22 or SAT of 1100
    • Currently passing Physical Fitness Assessment
    • DoDMERB qualified (military medical entrance exam)

Benefits

  • Pays tuition and fees up to $18,000/year
  • All scholarship awardees also receive $900/year for books and tax-free monthly stipend ranging from $300-$500

High School Student Scholarships

Eligibility

  • Basic Scholarship Requirements
    • Must be a U.S. citizen
    • Minimum 9th ‐11th grade GPA of 3.0
    • Minimum SAT composite score of 1240 or minimum ACT composite score of 26
    • 17 years old to activate a scholarship
    • Have not been enrolled full‐time at a college or university except for joint high school/college programs prior to the fall college term
    • Meet physical fitness standards
    • Must be of good moral character and demonstrate leadership potential

Benefits

  • Scholarship Types (3-4 year scholarships)
    • Type 1 – pays full tuition and most fees
    • Type 2 – pays tuition and most fees up to $18,000/year
    • Type 7 – pays tuition up to equivalent of public institution at the in-state rate
    • All scholarship awardees also receive $900/year for books and tax-free monthly stipend ranging from $300-$500

  • Application is open at afrotc.com June 1 – January 31 in the academic year before starting undergraduate classes
