UWM Chinese Program Earns National Recognition at 2025 National Chinese EXPO

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chinese Program has achieved a significant milestone on the national stage. Student works from the Chinese program were recently selected for the 2025 National Chinese EXPO of Student Works, a prestigious showcase featuring outstanding Chinese language learners from K–16 levels across the country. In recognition of these collective achievements, UWM was honored with a national trophy, pictured below.

These accolades underscore UWM’s commitment to providing a curriculum that bridges language education with real-world career readiness and community-engaged learning.

  • Preston Ruh and Isabelle Bright: Their speeches explore how Chinese language study at UWM has shaped their worldviews and career trajectories. They highlight Chinese as a vital tool for international relations, diplomatic strategy, and global career opportunities, while expressing gratitude for the UWM learning community.
  • Genevieve Dwyer: Her project, “Knitting Good Fortune,” masterfully combined language proficiency with her personal hobby of knitting. This creative fusion of artistic expression and cultural understanding also earned Genevieve First Place at the 2025 Midwest College Chinese Speech Contest.
  • UWM Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition: Final projects from our Chinese Calligraphy course showcased a variety of script styles. Beyond their visual beauty, these works served as powerful personal narratives of memory, love, and transformation, bridging traditional art with modern storytelling.
