PORTUGS 103 First-Semester Portuguese

Beginner-level Portuguese; listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar.

PORTUGS 104 Second-Semester Portuguese
4 cr. Undergraduate.
Continuation of PORTUGS 103.

PORTUGS 110 Accelerated Portuguese I
3 cr. Undergraduate.
Accelerated beginner-level course designed to enable students to develop comprehensive listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Portuguese.

PORTUGS 202 Portuguese for Spanish Speakers
3 cr. Undergraduate.
Content of PORTUGS 103 and PORTUGS 104 at a fast pace in one semester, building on students' knowledge of Spanish; similarities and differences between Spanish and Portuguese.
Prerequisites: SPANISH 204(P), Level 5 on the UW System Spanish Placement Test, or permission of instructor.
Course Rules: Students may not receive credit for PORTUGS 202 if they have taken PORTUGS 110 or PORTUGS 104.

PORTUGS 203 Third-Semester Portuguese
3 cr. Undergraduate.
Intermediate-level continuation of PORTUGS 104. Development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing; review of first-year grammatical concepts. Readings in modern literary and non-literary texts.
Prerequisites: PORTUGS 104(P) or equivalent. Generates L&S credit for demonstrated equivalent preparation (8 retro cr).

PORTUGS 204 Fourth-Semester Portuguese

PORTUGS 289 Internship in Portuguese, Lower Division
1-3 cr. Undergraduate.
Application of basic principles of Portuguese in a business, organizational, educational, political, or other appropriate setting.
Prerequisites: introductory course in Portuguese; 2.25 GPA and consent of supervising faculty member.
Course Rules: One cr earned for academic work based on 40 hours in internship.May be retaken to 3 cr max.
PORTUGS 297 Study Abroad:
1-12 cr. Undergraduate.
Designed to enroll students in UWM sponsored program before course work level, content, and credits are determined and/or in specially prepared course work.
Prerequisites: acceptance for Study Abroad Program.

PORTUGS 310 Advanced Composition and Conversation

PORTUGS 313 Advanced Speaking and Listening
3 cr. Undergraduate.
Practice in speaking and listening for advanced students through discussion of Luso-Brazilian audiovisual and/or multi-media cultural tools; follow-up reading, writing, and grammar activities.
Prerequisites: PORTUGS 204(P) or equivalent.
