  • Counselor

Elyssa joined UWM’s Student Health and Wellness Center in October of 2023. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in Cellular/Molecular Biology with a minor in Human Development from UW-Green Bay in 2013. She spent some time working within the science field before returning to earn her Master of Science in Counseling with a Trauma Certification from Mount Mary University in 2019. After graduating, she began to work with clients who identify as female and their families as they recovered from substance use issues until the end of 2021 when she began working in the adult substance use residential facility through Aurora.

Throughout Elyssa’s time in counseling, she has been focusing her efforts on advocacy and trauma work, which has led her to be able to speak at multiple conferences about trauma and its effects on Epigenetics, working with the LGBTQIA+ population, specifically in substance use treatment, and linking PTSD and substance use. She began teaching graduate-level counseling students at Mount Mary University during the Spring semester of 2023 and has been utilizing her licensure to write letters of readiness for trans-folx during the Milwaukee Pride Fests since 2021.

In her free time, she enjoys thrifting/antiquing, beating escape rooms with friends, and cheering on her favorite football teams.
