As we move along in our college career, we can be struck with uncertainty. What is our plan for after graduation? Where will we end up living? Will we actually use our degree how we planned? All of these questions can often be blinders to experience the here and now. The unknown can bring up feelings of fear, stress, or anxiety. This can be a hard time to keep focused on the tasks at hand. Try to channel those fears and unknowns into pushing yourself forward towards what you’ve been working so hard to accomplish.
Yes, preparing for life post-grad is an important part of being a student, but it is also very important to remember to let yourself be a student. Some of us won’t be returning to school after we receive our undergraduate degrees. This being said, take advantage of the here and now. This could mean taking a few more deep breaths when we feel overwhelmed, utilizing student resources such as study spaces or intentional spaces on campus, or simply enjoying the beautiful campus we have at our disposal.
Going to university-sponsored events, sitting around with friends working on assignments, walking to those 8 am classes on a chilly Milwaukee morning. All of these things round out what it means to be a student. Let’s do our best to live in the moment, take in the little things, and take advantage of this stage in our lives.
