- Two semester advanced internship in college mental health spanning the 2025-2026 academic year
- Designed as a field placement opportunity for graduate students currently in counseling, social work, and related mental health programs
- Emphasis on providing supervised clinical interventions with a college student population
- Additionally, you will participate in a two-week orientation before the start of the fall semester, some staff meetings, and agency committees
- Ideal for students who already have some clinical experience and are looking for careers as psychotherapists and clinical social workers
There are three basic paths for interns at SHAW – Counseling. The below opportunities represent the primary focus of the first semester; the second semester will focus on direct practice counseling and align with the Advanced Counseling Internship.

- Master’s student in an accredited counseling, social work, or related mental health program
- Have completed or concurrently taking at least one course in DSM-5 diagnosis, psychopathology, or clinical appraisal and decision making (e.g. SW 753 or 754, COUNS 751)
- Commitment of 20 hours per week during the academic year for direct and indirect services
- Prior clinical or adjacent experience highly recommended

We view training as an essential component of SHAW – Counseling and are dedicated to training students who are preparing for careers in mental health. We have a multidisciplinary cohort of master’s interns and clinical fellows. Interns have an excellent opportunity to learn about the practice of therapy as well as the use of self in the therapy process.
