Andrew Goodman: “An Ecological Approach to Interactivity”
July 13, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Australian artist Andrew Goodman will discuss his recent artwork that attempts to “rethink” interactivity along ecological and ethical lines. On Friday, July 13, at 3 p.m. he will visit the Digital Humanities Lab in UWM’s Golda Meir Library to discuss his work.
Goodman is a visual artist, writer and academic who teaches visual art at La Trobe University and critical & theoretical studies at the Victorian College of the Arts. His multimedia installations draw on science fiction and involve generative sound, soft sculpture, light, algorithmic design and custom electronics.
He draws on process philosophy to rethink the scope of what is “interactive” through a larger engagement with the technical and the transhuman registers of artworks and the social and political implications of relation.
His discussion will focus on his 2016 installation “Flume” and his 2018 book “Gathering Ecologies: Thinking Beyond Interactivity.”
