September 22, 2025 – Academic Staff Awards Committee (ASAC)– Minutes

Present: Sara Luelloff, Renato Umali, Georgia Brown, Ahmed Kaffel, Lisa Brennan

  1. Meeting called to order at 1:00 p.m.
  2. Introduction of Committee Members
  3. Minutes of May 13, 2025 meeting approved as distributed. 
    1. Motion to approve by Georgia Brown
    2. Second by Renato Umali
    3. Approval at 1:05 p.m.
  4. Review Committee Bylaws
    1. Professional development grant funding is in flux, will change yearly & is mentioned in the first sentence of the bylaws
      1. Potentially update phrase to be: “to administer the following awards as funding allows:”
      2. Will ask the Senate for the change
  5. Updates
    1. Overview of Awards available for 2025-2026
      1. Academic Staff Outstanding Performance & Service Award
      2. Academic Staff Outstanding Teaching Award
    2. Note: Professional Development Awards and Regents awards are not being offered this year
    3. Note: Regents Award – also not happening this year
    4. SECU website updated. There is a New Committee website: Academic Staff Awards Committee
      1. We need to update the language on the website to say that Prof. Dev Awards aren’t available annually.
      2. Should we say purposefully say that we aren’t doing Prof. Dev Awards?
  6. Review 2024-2025 Awards Calls and revise 2025-2026 nomination forms as needed:
    • Award details can be found on the committee’s website
      1. Academic Staff Outstanding Performance & Service Award
        1. Update the date when the time comes
      2. Academic Staff Outstanding Teaching Award
        1. Update the date when the time comes
  7. New Business-No New Business
  8. Schedule future Meeting Dates
    1. Sara will be reaching out in January to schedule meetings:
      1. May: 2 meetings
        • Academic Staff Outstanding Performance & Service Award (nominations due early April)
        • Academic Staff Outstanding Teaching Award (nominations due early April)
      2. June: End of the year wrap-up
